P2 - Hauntingly Historical
Ponniyan Selvan part 2 is hauntingly heartbreaking yet ends with a hearty sense of hope. Like most Mani Ratnam/A R Rahman movies, it touches all the right spots of emotive narration.
My husband's vexed exclamation at the climax, " So are you saying everything would have been alright if those two married each other?! Ah they should have just sat down and had a CHAT" , was all of us.
Realizing that Mandakini was literally the silent protagonist all along, that being a royal is so NOT a joke, and that a simple misunderstanding can cause kingdoms to shatter, we left the theatre reeling from the haunting track "Ilaiyor Soodar".
A few of the most memorable moments would be Nandini-Aditha's climax that echoed so much of 'Ravanan', the heart-touching climactic moment of Mandakini and Sundara Chozha, and the tiny yet beautiful tryst between Kundavai and Vandiyathevan. (Aga Naga is definitely a song from heaven!)
Cheers to the entire Ponniyan Selvan team and here's to many more wholesome cinematic content that celebrates the culture, colour, and charisma of the Indian subcontinent!
