A Valentine's Reminder
We have approached yet another celebration of love which is often considered a day that’s
segregated to romance, but is always shared as a day felicitating every loving
relationship we share with one another. We have been through perhaps the
toughest season our times have faced , and we have mourned the loss of many
loved ones both near and far. During the pandemic, we have been enlightened
further of the true meaning of both individuality and community, being unique
and generic, and loving oneself and others. As we celebrate the 14th
of February respectfully named after St. Valentine- martyred for his acts of
justice towards authentic lovers- let’s remember that during our stay on this
side of life’s raging waters our duties to ourselves and one another should be
founded and built on genuine, true, love.
Let’s remember to
take care of those not only weaker than us physically, but those whose
differences we may not agree with, those whose perspectives we may dislike, and
those who we may detest due to their inherent negativity. Let’s remind
ourselves that loving from the distance can and should be done whenever required,
but that loving in the action itself should never stop. Let’s take an extra
look at our elders, our young children, and remember that often those who seem
like they don’t deserve love are the ones who need it the most.
Happy Valentine’s
Day!
