10 super facts about my super-mom !
1) Ammee is one of the best teachers I've encountered. Her students
absolutely love her. She's very keen, extremely compassionate and
practical. Even after 30 years of teaching, she still delights in her
job with the same passion as when she was young. Although she gets
physically tired due to her age, she still is eager to teach and train
her students well.
2) She's very independent. Often stubbornly so. She single-handedly raised the three of us- my siblings and I, and still provide for all our domestic needs - hesitating to ask for our help unless she has absolutely no other choice. She does complain about her physical ailments, yet does NOT want to admit that she needs anyone's assistance unless things get out of hand for her. (which is stubbornness - just like my granddad used to be! ;) )
3) She can cook ANYTHING in the - wait for it- RICE COOKER! Yes you read that right! When we run out of gas we do not have to worry a single bit during the few hours it may take to get a new cylinder. Ammee can make anything and everything in the rice cooker! And that too, with no difference in taste and goodness! Love her for that!
4) Her kiribath (a.k.a. milk-rice) is INCOMPARABLY fantastic! I am not exaggertaing. I recently suggested that she should actually sell packs of Kiribath and Lunu Miris. She will definitely have a thriving business if she started !
5) She never forces us to do anything we don't like to. She raised us that way, and she remains to be so. She does of course have the typical motherly complains about me not being married etc (but those are her obligations anyway! :D ) but she won't forcefully plunge me into anny kind of unwanted situation.
6) She still manages to make us laugh by just being herself. Malli is the best person to witness to this factor! She is so lovable and funny that sometimes even her scoldings and angry remarks make us laugh. The best part is, she laughs with us! :D
7) After Jesus, she's the best healer. When she is around noone in her family, even my grandmother, has to worry about getting well again. She makes sure (sometimes forces us!) that we take our medication, get good rest, and eat right! Just having her around is a a huge comfort when I am feeling ill.
8) She loves us more than anyone else on earth. Although she doesn't tell us so daily, all that she does for us portray her affections very clearly!
9) She's the best finder of missing articles! Honestly, something that I would search for with all my energy for weeks, end up right in her hand when she looks for it in minutes! I don't know how she does it! Therefore I have given up looking for stuff now. When something is missing, I go to her directly! :D
10) Ammee never gives up. She would say so when she's angry. But she never does. :) After the Lord God, she's the one holding all the strings of our household steady.
I would like to appreciate my Ammee. She's simply one of the best people I will ever know! I love you Ammee! :)
