Yet another heartache you'll like :) - Madarasapattinam (c) Anu Madhubhashinie

Why am I such a sucker for emotional movies!

It is indeed sheer delight to dwell in that reverie of the after-glow of a good, mostly sad, romantic story line backed up with equally good music and cinematography.
However, sadly, until I put those 'huzur"sentiments on paper, my insides rivet in melancholia - and as much as I like those emotional entanglements, I despise the bittersweet aftertaste that lingers on the tip of my thoughts; not like I stop watching those movies though :)

I will not forget how miserable Sanjay Leela Bhansali left me after Bajirao Mastani. That was only around 3 weeks ago. (refer to "Lessons Learned from Bajirao Mastani"on my blog) And uh-oh, I came across something similar yet sweeter in agony , today - Madarasapattinam.
If you have seen this South Indian cinematic production, you clearly know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, then I suggest you go ahead and watch it at once, before I ruin your day with sentimental spoilers.

The movie has perfect music and background score. Hands down. G.V Prakash Kumar should be well praised here. I was involuntarily attracted to the song "Pookkul poovum tharunam"sung by Harini and Roop Kumar Rathod- so beautifully, that after learning its meaning , almost the same sentiments that blossomed in me after listening to Äayat (from Bajirao Mastani) , invaded my thoughts.

The story line has been obviously inspired by the romantic edge of the Bollywood Blockbuster "Lagaan". What I couldn't help but notice, was the influence of "Titanic"and "Lagaan", in an interesting blend, which the creators have infused into the cinematic. The cast did a good job portraying grief, heartache and nostalgia. I particularly should praise Alex O'Nell, for his excellent performance as the antagonistically menacing Robert Ellis.

The plot had some lose ends. However that didn't stop me from being caught up with the exciting twists in the tale. There have bee several questions raging in my mind , which I got clarified , after reading about the plot on the internet.

If you were a fan of "Lagaan" and are attracted to historical tales with a romantic twist, Madarasapattinam is the movie for you.

Let's see what the next target of my bittersweet attraction for heartache would be..! :)
