Lessons Learnt from Bajirao Mastani (c) Anu Madhubhashinie
I experienced the tragically miserably beautiful production by the Cinematic Poet Sanjay Leela Bhansali , a couple of days ago.
Here are, bluntly, a few lessons I learned from the intense plot of the motion picture, in random order.
1. NEVER go for a married man; no matter how many wives he can afford to have. He will never be completely yours and you will be never completely yourself again.
2. No matter how much you think you're "in love", don't pursue the guy until he pursues you. You will be tagged and titled things you don't want to be identified as , for the rest of your life.
3. Don't make the mistake of confusing "true love"with "selfish desire". Love is all about generosity; giving. It is not love to do what you selfishly desire and consequently ruin the happiness of your loved ones, their friends and family, and ultimately yourself. It is love , to let go and give away, in order for his/her joy to be stable and complete.
4. Obey your parents. If you think they are being ridiculous, at least listen to them. They've lived more than you do, and they know empirically. Don't dismiss their advice without serious consideration.
5. Be faithful to your spouse. If you fail, at least be truthful. If your spouse will condemn you for your unfaithfulness, they will at least appreciate your honesty.
6. Not heeding to the above causes a life time of heartache to you and your household.
7. On a lighter note, take dance lessons. They may help you at the most random instances: at war-camp during a rare break, when a rival unexpectedly invites you to their festivities, when your crush stays over with your family for a few days, when your mother in law-to-be challenges you, for example ;)
8. Do not watch a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie if you are a person with photographic memory, and going through a difficult time in life. Nope. The movie will only make things even more miserable. Nightmares and visceral misery for a few days included.
9. Priyanka Chopra = Class!
10. Trust in God. Not your instinct, not your experience, not your expertise and abilities, when making decisions. He will save you from a lifetime of trauma, frustration and regret. Period.
I'm truly thankful to have witnessed this award-winning epic motion picture. Don't miss it if you still haven't seen it :)
