I'm Something!
I've lived for more than two decades of life and throughout the years I had to face various, roller-coaster-like issues regarding self-image and confidence resulting from appearance! I'm writing this post today in order to encourage the millions of young girls and ladies out there who never thought or think they are good enough.
This world is certainly not very encouraging with regard to self-confidence. True there are hundreds of new TV programs, blogs, publications, movies and posts on all forms of Social Media which tags the famous line "Beauty lies beneath". However much sources try to twist that phrase around and make it their own little public stunt, women these days are too smart to be "tricked", of course unless you're over-pressurized or utterly and absolutely ignorant.
No judgments here, I'm completely pro and for ladies, and everything they stand for. Ladies rock. Ladies run the world with their love.
That's why God didn't just stop working after creating Adam :)
I wanted to write a few words with my raw experience. I want to start with this. No matter how bad you may think you look, or no matter how much you think you're not good enough, an objective view sees you MUCH prettier and MUCH more attractive than you may presume. I have practically experimented and experienced this hands on.
So I left one very draining-out work day last week without even botheirng about the way I looked. Kajal smudged under my eyes thickly, hair not staying in place in my high bun, not having exactly matching-clothes that day because I was feeling gloomy that morning, and carrying two bags, a handbag and a satchel with all my things, and no makeup at all. I don't think I was looking even average, in my opinion. But, I guess that was just me thinking.
I walked across town to a shop I was looking for which was practically on the other side of the wide-spread market place. Usually I would take a "tuk-tuk" (a three-wheeled vehicle mostly used as taxis in the Southern Region of Asia), but that day, I decided to walk. I needed a bit of excercise and I also wanted to take a walk to ease my mind. So on I went, off the bus across town to purchase something I wanted, in my worn-out leather slippers. All the way down to the Textiles Shop which is located about five or six meters away from the bus-stop, I didn't reallly come across anyone except for a few housewives rushing from one shop to another, and children who were walking towards the tutoring institute at the junction. However, as soon as I passed this point, I started noticing people watching me as I passed. The funny thing is, not were they just men, but I got a few "look"s from the ladies, a lot of children and even the people in the shops as well. A few yards down the road I also received several wolf-whistles and many noticeable "head-to-toe" glances.
Then I thought. These are road-siders. They'd whistle at anyone. I ignored them and went along. After purchasing the goods I wanted to, while returning I took a by-road that leaad straight to my place. I had to cut across the parking lot allotted to a popular textile shop in order to do this, so I went along, no care for the world, when I noticed that my asumption was wrong. Several men who got off their vehicles at the parking lot ran their glances all over me and I saw a few even smiled benignly as if saying a "hello there" in a "polite" manner..
The best toodle-doos I received were a couple of "Hey sexy"s at the junction by two twenty-something men on their motorbikes. Now that got me grinning to myself thinking "So I'm something"!
Ladies, no matter how unmatchedly you're dressed, or smudged your makeup has become, no matter how tired you look, no matter how much your hair is dishevelled, you look good. My experience foretold is proof. Don't ever think you don't look good enough. Ever.
I wonder how many times I've failed to notice that I do look, as a matter of fact, quite good looking.
Just look at yourselves in the mirror girls, and notice that you definitely ARE something. Something attractive, worth-the watch, and simply, by default of being a woman, you qualify.
It's time to celebrate yourself!
